Services

Janet was asked to join the Instructional Development Group in October, 2002. She is also a Trainer at De Anza College. She has provided instructional design, graphic design, and illustrations for the following learning objects and templates:

CSS Debugger
This project was developed as a learning object for advanced HTML classes. I was responsible for:

  • graphic design and instructional design of website examples

Sample Websites
These websites were developed as examples for advanced HTML classes. I was responsible for:

  • graphic design and instructional design

Writing Constructor
(This project is still in development.)

This learning object is an interactive composition constructor and analyzer to be used in English 1A and 1B courses. I was responsible for:

  • graphic user interface design
  • consultant for instructional design

Playing Card Graphics
These graphics were developed as a resource for programming instructors. I was responsible for:

  • the design, illustration, and creation of the cards

Just In Time Training Materials
These tutorials were created to provide quick references and trainings for over 20 different software applications. I was responsible for:

  • developing tutorials and editing them as web pages

Clip Art Gallery
This gallery is a collection of my illustrations from various projects and is provided as a resource for instructors. I was responsible for:

  • the creation of this gallery
  • the illustration of all images
  • the design of all photographs

Technology Enhanced Certification Project
A series of certification courses were developed as part of the Technology Enhanced Certification program to provide training for instructors working to develop technology skills. I was responsible for:

  • the development of certificate level 1
  • working with team members to select course modules and topics, and to write workshops that needed to be developed

Her service responsibilities include:

  • Teaching workshops to train faculty and classified employees to use office software and media development tools. (HTML, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Manila, Powerpoint, Digital Imaging, Basic Interface Design, Project Mapping, ETUDES)
  • Planning, developing, and writing courses for the faculty Technology Enhanced Certification program.
  • Developing on-line instructional modules to provide quick assistance and technical support in the use of office and media development software.
  • Managing interactive media development projects.
  • Collaborating with department Deans and faculty to assess instructional needs and develop customized interactive educational Learning Objects to meet those needs.
  • Assisting in defining project goals and objectives, writing design documents, establishing and implementing project timelines, and evaluating prototypes.
  • Developing graphical interfaces for interactive media projects and instructional templates to be used by faculty for their online classes.
  • Designing original illustrations for instructional media.
Janet's Biography

Janet has a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology and Instructional Design from San Jose State University. She taught elementary school for fourteen years and developed curriculum for bilingual educational programs.

She enjoys travelling and learning languages. She has lived in Latin America and is fluent in Spanish. She has also studied Mandarin and has taught English in China at Shanghai Second Educational College.

Janet also enjoys fine art. She is a muralist (interior and exterior decorating and faux finishing) and a painter. She works with a variety of different mediums including painting on porcelain and ceramics, mixed media, watercolor, oil, and acrylics.

Recently Janet has sought to combine her teaching, instructional design and artistic skills with technology. While earning an AA in Multimedia from Foothill College, she decided to take a leave of absence from teaching elementary school to accept a NASA internship position as a Web Developer and Multimedia Specialist. It was while she was working at NASA that she was asked to take her current position as Instructional Designer and Trainer with Learning Technologies.
